Service dog Sully needs our help.
Hi, my name is Maya.I’ve known Jo, Sully’s incredible human, for most of my life. But I truly met Sully a couple of years ago after I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. He walked into my chemo room with his big eyes, wagging tail, and gentle soul, and changed everything.Sully would climb into the hospital bed beside me, lick my face, and make me laugh when I needed it most. He brought joy to my hardest moments and comforted not only me, but the nurses and staff who cared for me. Sully is more than a service dog. He is pure love, focus, and loyalty. Now, Sully needs our help.Sully is a five-year-old black Labrador Retriever, trained by NEADS World Class Service Dogs. He is Jo’s constant support, her lifeline, and her closest companion. He helps her navigate life with disabilities, from retrieving medication and opening doors to giving her the independence to travel and live fully. He has stood by her side through it all.Recently, Sully began showing signs of pain. After a veterinary exam, a mass was discovered in his left kidney. It is likely renal carcinoma. He is scheduled for surgery on June 3 to remove the entire kidney. Even with insurance, Jo is now facing thousands of dollars in veterinary costs, and the journey is only just beginning. His long-term prognosis and treatment plan will depend on what doctors find during surgery.Jo has always been there for Sully, just as he has always been there for her. She is now doing everything she can to get him the best care possible, but the financial strain is heavy. And with Sully unable to assist her during recovery, she must also navigate daily life without the help he so lovingly provides.Sully has helped Jo travel the world, brought smiles to strangers, and even met Chewbacca on the streets of Disneyland. He pulls carrots from the grocery store shelves because they are his favorite snack. He has been a hero at polling places on Election Day and is known in his community as the Good Boy who always shows up with heart. When a service dog becomes sick, their human loses more than a pet. They lose their hands, their legs, and their daily support. As one of Jo’s mentors put it, “You must be gutted. This is the worst.”Sully gives his all to others. Now it’s our turn. Please help us cover Sully’s surgery, recovery, and any additional treatment he may need. Every donation counts, and every dollar brings us closer to giving Sully the chance to continue doing what he loves most, caring for Jo and everyone lucky enough to know him.Thank you for standing with Sully. Thank you for being part of his healing.
